What to expect
The arc of a BADA charter, hour by hour. Read this once before the morning of your day. Minseo sends a personal version twelve hours before departure.
The arc of the day
A driver collects you from your hotel on Samui. Bring swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light cover-up. Everything else is aboard. The drive to Bophut Pier is twenty minutes.
Bophut Pier, outside Fisherman's Village. Minseo greets you at the boat, introduces any crew, and walks you through the cabin. The boat has a bathroom, a shower for salt-water rinse, a sound system, and shade across the aft.
The crossing to the day's destination begins. Ninety minutes to Sail Rock. An hour and a half to Ang Thong. Forty-five to Koh Phangan. Twenty to Koh Mat Sum. Coffee, fruit, and water on board. You will not see another charter boat on the horizon at this hour — that is by design.
On arrival, before any descent, the boat anchors and the opening practice begins. Three minutes of breathing — a four-count inhale, a six-count exhale — with the eyes closed while the boat drifts. This is the haenyeo ritual Minseo carries from Korea. Nobody dives cold. Nobody rushes the water.
Snorkel, fins, mask, and weight belt. Minseo leads. If it is your first breath-hold, we start at the surface with equalisation practice. If you are experienced, we head directly for the rope. No one is left alone in the water at any point. The buddy system is non-negotiable.
The boat anchors in a protected bay. A proper meal prepared for your day — rice, grilled fish, a Thai salad, fresh fruit, cold water. No plastic takeout trays. Dietary needs noted at booking are honoured. Long surface interval while the body rests.
Back in the water. Depths the morning suggested. On some days the afternoon is the best hour — light angles differently, the reef life is back out, the water settles. Minseo reads conditions and shapes the session accordingly.
The boat heads back toward Samui. Minseo shows you the footage she captured during the day. You choose your favourite frames — the short edited film will be built around them.
The boat returns to the pier. The driver takes you back to your hotel. The whole day has taken about eleven hours. Some of you will shower and nap. Some will go directly to dinner. All of you will be quieter than you were this morning.
Three to four days after your charter, a short edited film of your day arrives by email. Two to three minutes, music, colour-graded, yours to keep. Minseo cuts every one of them personally.
What to bring
Aboard
If the Gulf is not ready
Minseo confirms sea conditions at 6pm the evening before your charter. If the Gulf is unsafe — currents above her working threshold, storm systems approaching, visibility below an acceptable line — the day is cancelled by her, not by you. You receive either a full refund or a free reschedule to a date that suits you. This decision is Minseo's to make and it is never open to debate. Safety is not a negotiation.
Between now and the morning
Dietary needs · experience level · a surprise you want to arrange on the boat · a question about equalisation · whether to bring your children · any request at all. She answers personally, usually within a few hours.
